Pequeno Poema, Sebastião Gama

Quando eu nasci,
ficou tudo como estava,

Nem homens cortaram veias,
nem o Sol escureceu,
nem houve Estrelas a mais...

esquecida das dores,
a minha Mãe sorriu e agradeceu.

Quando eu nasci,
não houve nada de novo
senão eu.

As nuvens não se espantaram,
não enlouqueceu ninguém...

P'ra que o dia fosse enorme,
toda a ternura que olhava
nos olhos de minha Mãe...

Sebastião da Gama, a falar de humildade.

Alma de Viajante

Quando o teu batel
ancorado há muito tempo no porto,
te deixar a impressão enganosa
de ser uma casa,
quando o teu batel
começar a criar raízes
na estagnação do cais,
faz-te ao largo.

É preciso salvar a qualquer preço
a alma viajante de teu batel
e a tua alma de peregrino.

E parte...
no próprio eu.

Partir é não deixar-se fechar

nos estreitos problemas
do pequeno mundo a que pertencemos.

Qualquer que seja a importância
do nosso pequeno mundo,
a humanidade é maior
e é só ela que devemos partir.

Partir: não devorar quilómetros
atravessar mares, voar
a velocidades supersónicas.

Seasick Dream

When I woke, I was not awake
Light from the sun felt so far away
I went up, with all of my strength
Straight for the sun, from the depths I sprang
And I drank from the sea
But it opened up and swallowed me
So I sank down deep
No I'm drunken like a seasick dream
In this dream, I am awake

I am awake

Well when did all of the waves
Roll right in and make me their slave
So I went far away
I didn't look back, I'll come back someday
Mamma wept, and she weeped
She said horizon don't you take him from me
Black sails on the sea
Just carry me until I can be
Awake, in this dream

I am awake

When my Time comes

There were moments of dreams
I was offered to save.
I lived less like a workhorse,
more like a slave.
I thought that one quick moment
that was noble or brave
would be worth the most of my life.

So I pointed my fingers
and shouted few quotes I knew,
as if something that's written
should be taken as true.
But every path I had taken
and conclusion I drew
would put truth back under the knife.

And now the only piece of advice that continues to help
is anyone that's making anything new only breaks something else.

When my time comes,
Oh oh oh oh.
When my time comes...

Choose your truth

  1. Live simply.  Love generously.  Speak truthfully.  Breathe deeply.  Do your best.  Leave everything else to the powers above you.
  2. No matter how you live, someone will be disappointed.  So just live your truth and be sure YOU aren’t the one who is disappointed in the end.
  3. Love yourself!  Forgive yourself!  Accept yourself!  You are YOU and that’s the beginning and the end - no apologies, no regrets.
  4. You are GOOD enough, SMART enough, FINE enough, and STRONG enough.  You don’t need other people to validate you; you’re already valuable.
  5. One of the most freeing things we learn in life is that we don’t have to like everyone, everyone doesn’t have to like us, and it’s perfectly OK.
  6. Try not to take things other people say about you too personally.  What they think and say is a reflection of them, not you.
  7. If you care too much about what other people think, in a way, you will always be their prisoner.
  8. Not everyone will appreciate what you do for them.  You have to figure out who’s worth your attention and who’s just taking advantage of you.
  9. Saying yes to happiness means learning to say no to the people and things that hurt you.  Be wise enough to walk away from the negativity.
  10. The first to apologize is the bravest.  The first to forgive is the strongest.  The first to move forward is the happiest (Dalai-Lama).
  11. Don’t cry over the past, it’s gone.  Don’t stress about the future, it hasn’t arrived.  Do your best to live in the NOW and make it beautiful.
  12. Don’t let dumb little things break your happiness.  True wealth is the ability to experience and appreciate each moment for what it’s worth.
  13. Life is too short to spend at war with yourself.  Practice acceptance and forgiveness.  Letting go of yesterday’s troubles is your first step towards happiness today.
  14. Worry gives small things a big shadow.  In the end, you can either focus on what’s tearing you apart, or what’s holding you together.
  15. Old worries are down payments on problems you may never have.  Let them go.  Today is a NEW beginning; take a deep breath and START AGAIN.
  16. Remember the good times, be strong during tough times, love always, laugh often, live honestly, and be thankful for each new day.
  17. You can’t let one bad moment spoil a bunch of good ones.  Don’t let the silly little dramas of each day get you down.
  18. If you are diligent and patient, everything you truly need in your life will come to you at the right time.
  19. Everything will fall into place eventually.  Until then, learn what you can, laugh often, live for the moments, and know it’s all worthwhile.
  20. You’re not the same person you were a year ago, a month ago, or a week ago.  You’re always growing.  Experiences don’t stop.  That’s life.
  21. One of the most rewarding moments in life is when you finally find the courage to let go of what you can’t change.
  22. Never force anything.  Give it your best shot, and then let it be.  If it’s meant to be, it will be.  Don’t hold yourself down with things you can’t control.
  23. When you stop expecting people and situations to be perfect, you can start to appreciate them for who and what they are.
  24. Giving up and moving on are two very different things.
  25. Moving on doesn’t mean forgetting, it means you choose happiness over hurt.
  26. Giving up doesn’t always mean you’re weak; sometimes it simply means you are strong enough and smart enough to let go and grow.
  27. As we grow older and wiser, we begin to realize what we need and what we need to leave behind.  Sometimes walking away is a step forward.
  28. You will never achieve what you are capable of if you’re too attached to things you’re supposed to let go of.
  29. Sometimes there are things in our lives that aren’t meant to stay.  Sometimes the changes we don’t want are the changes we need to grow.
  30. Growth and change may be painful sometimes, but nothing in life is as painful as staying stuck where you don’t belong.
  31. The hardest part about growing is letting go of what you were used to, and moving on with something you’re not.
  32. Accept what is, let go of what was and have faith in what could be.
  33. Don’t be afraid of change.  Change happens for a reason.  Roll with it.  It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it.
  34. It’s usually quite hard to let go and move on, but once you do, you’ll feel free and realize it was the best decision you’ve ever made.
  35. Never let your fear decide your future.
  36. Fear doesn’t exist anywhere except in your mind.  It’s difficult to follow your heart, but it’s a tragedy to let the lies of fear stop you.
  37. You can’t always wait for the perfect moment.  Sometimes you must let go and dare to do it because life is too short to wonder what could have been.
  38. You’re not the same person you were a year ago, a month ago, or a week ago.  You’re always growing.  Experiences don’t stop.  That’s life.
  39. One of the most rewarding moments in life is when you finally find the courage to let go of what you can’t change.
  40. Never force anything.  Give it your best shot, and then let it be.  If it’s meant to be, it will be.  Don’t hold yourself down with things you can’t control.
  41. When you stop expecting people and situations to be perfect, you can start to appreciate them for who and what they are.

      Every breaking wave

      Mundaka, Jan. 2015

Every breaking wave on the shore
Tells the next one there'll be one more
And every gambler knows that to lose
Is what you're really there for

      Summer I was fearless
Now I speak into an answer phone
Like every fallen leaf on the breeze
      Winter wouldn't leave it alone

If you go your way and I go mine
Are we so helpless against the tide
Baby, every dog on the street
Knows that we're in love with defeat
Are we ready to be swept off our feet
And stop chasing every breaking wave

Every sailor knows that the sea
      Is a friend made enemy
And every shipwrecked soul knows what it is
      To live without intimacy

      I thought I heard the captain's voice
But it's hard to listen while you preach
Like every broken wave on the shore
This is as far as I could reach

The sea knows where are the rocks
      And drowning is no sin
You know where my heart is
The same place that yours has been
And we know that we fear to win
And so we end before we begin

      a little prayer

Take these shoes, click clacking down some dead end street
Take these shoes and make them fit
Take this shirt, polyester white trash made in nowhere
Take this shirt and make it clean, clean
Take this soul, stranded in some skin and bones
Take this soul and make it sing.

      Yahweh, Yahweh
Always pain before a child is born
      Yahweh, Yahweh
Still I'm waiting for the dawn

Take these hands, teach them what to carry
Take these hands, don't make a fist
Take this mouth, so quick to criticize
Take this mouth, give it a kiss

Still waiting for the dawn, the sun is coming up
The sun is coming up on the ocean
This love is like a drop in the ocean

Nenhuma oração expressa plenamente a nossa fé.
      Nenhuma confissão traz a perfeição.
Nenhuma decisão traz sozinha a integridade.

Somos peregrinos neste mundo.”

      D. Óscar Romero, bispo de El Salvador.
